19 year-old David Aniculaesei, from Birmingham, is at college studying Business Enterprise. He passed his test earlier this year and is now safely on the road thanks to Marmalade’s telematics based New Driver Insurance.

David says: “I was over the moon when I passed my test but soon came down to reality with a bump when I started researching the insane costs to insure my car as a young driver. I visited cost-comparison sites and discovered insurance was just too expensive until I stumbled across Marmalade – and what a find it was!”

“The price was competitive and affordable and what’s more I had a really helpful customer care team member of staff talking me through the ins and out of the insurance policy – all the legal jargon which I know is important but it was information I didn’t understand at first.”

David continues: “I feel I’m good and safe driver so I’m looking forward to checking in on my journeys and ensuring I’m constantly improving my skills. I drive to visit my family in Berkshire a lot and drive to see Bethany, my girlfriend, so having a curfew free and unlimited mileage policy is ideal for me.”

Marmalade’s telematics focuses on ABCS: acceleration, braking, cornering and average speed. The telematics device measures the g-force created by these actions to measure driving skills.

Marmalade is proud of its safety statistics of its telematics drivers. On a national basis, 1 in 5 young drivers is involved in an accident within the first six months of passing their test. With Marmalade, this statistic reduces to 1 in 18 meaning their young telematics drivers are nearly four times less likely to be involved in an accident as they develop their driving skills in this critical period.

David says: “Thanks to Marmalade I can fully embrace my new freedom in my car and get on the road safely, which started with a road trip with my girlfriend, Bethany, to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, last weekend – it was amazing!”
