Learner driver wins big

An 18-year-old learner driver from Horfield, Bristol, has won his dream car - a brand new Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 litre, through a competition run by Marmalade, provider of cars and telematics-based insurance for young drivers.

Austin, a Learner Driver Marmalade customer, was randomly selected from thousands of competition entries after playing Marmalade’s latest game. The online quiz helps young drivers to discover what type of driver they are.

As part of the prize, Austin has also been signed up to Marmalade’s New Driver Insurance policy. This means he’ll benefit from free black box insurance cover for one year.

Marmalade’s black box technology tracks each journey and encourages young drivers to develop safe and responsible driving skills by highlighting areas for improvement. As a result of this Marmalade’s young drivers are nearly four times less likely to have an accident in their first six months of driving than the national average for young drivers.*

The vast majority of journeys are safe “Green” journeys, but if risky driving is flagged a member of the customer service team will ring the young driver to talk them through it to help them understand what when wrong and give them tips to improve.

Austin said: “When I received the email from Marmalade I couldn’t believe it, you never think you’re actually going to win one of these competitions!

“I’m almost ready to take my test and having this car is going to be all the motivation I need to get it booked. It’s such a nice car and it’s so much better than any car I could have afforded.

“In January I will starting in the Army, so I have a few months living at home and having a car to get around to go to work and see my mates is going to be so helpful – no more lifts from Mum!”

Guy Knight, Director of Marmalade, says: “We champion our young drivers and it was a pleasure to hand over the keys to Austin. We understand the freedom and independence driving can give a young person and we look forward to keeping in touch with Austin to see where his new car takes him.”
